EU Lawmakers Back Delay to High-Risk AI Act Obligations

The update

The Council and Parliament reached a provisional agreement on 7 May 2026 to amend the EU AI Act. It would move obligations for stand-alone high-risk systems from 2 August 2026 to 2 December 2027, and for AI in regulated products from 2 August 2027 to 2 August 2028. Parliament voted to adopt it on 16 June 2026; Council approval and publication are still needed.

Why it matters

Software firms serving European clients gain time, but not an exemption. Documentation, logging and human-oversight work for high-risk systems should continue.
