Wood Mackenzie: India's Data-Centre Capacity Could Reach 12 GW by 2030

The update

Wood Mackenzie projects India's operational data-centre capacity growing at about 40% a year, from 2.2 GW in 2025 to 12 GW by 2030. It expects AI-dedicated capacity to rise from 275 MW to 6,546 MW.

Other forecasts are lower: CareEdge Ratings expects about 4 GW by FY2030 and Redseer 5–6 GW of installed IT load, reflecting different definitions.

Why it matters

More local capacity improves latency and data residency for Indian users. Power availability is the main constraint the reports highlight.
