Security in the Edge: Hardening Decentralized Data Pipelines

Why the edge changes the threat model

Edge computing moves processing out of the data center and onto devices and regional nodes. Every node becomes a potential entry point, so the perimeter disappears.

Zero trust, applied

Every request is authenticated and authorized, regardless of where it comes from. Devices carry short-lived credentials, services verify each other with mutual TLS, and access is granted per action rather than per network.

Sensitive data such as biometrics should be encrypted at rest and in transit, minimized at collection, and processed on-device wherever possible.

Observability as a security control

You can't defend what you can't see. Centralized audit logs, anomaly detection, and tamper-evident pipelines turn a distributed system into one you can actually monitor.
