Technical SEO for AI Answer Engines: Structured Data, llms.txt and Entity Consistency

Why this is now an engineering task

Pew Research found users clicked results on 8% of Google searches showing an AI summary, versus 15% without one. Content still matters, but how machines read it matters more than before.

Structured data

Publish JSON-LD for your organisation (name, address, phone, geo-coordinates, logo), each page's breadcrumb, services, FAQs and articles. Generate it from the same data that renders the page so the two never disagree.

Cite external sources in your content and, where it fits, in structured data, so claims can be verified.

llms.txt and crawlability

An llms.txt file gives AI systems a plain-language map of your site: who you are, what you offer and where the important pages are. Keep it generated from your page registry so it stays current.

Server-render primary content, keep pages fast, and avoid hiding key facts behind client-side interactions.

Entity consistency

Use the same business name, address, phone and email everywhere: website, structured data, Google Business Profile and directories. Inconsistent details make it harder for any system to trust which version is correct.
